PRINCIPAL’S CORNER Esparto Elementary Cubs Corner Thanks to our wonderful PTA for sponsoring Story Night and the Sock Hop! Both events were great fun. PTA is now selling cute socks with paw prints on them. Come by the office to see a sample. Thanks to everyone who supported the spring See’s candy sale. With our proceeds, we will be able to purchase the safety bark that will go under our new playground structure. With spring in the air, it is important to remember dress code and expectations for behavior. Please be aware the playground is not open before school until 7:50. Children arriving earlier than that should go straight to the multi, as there won’t be outside supervision until 7:50. Thank you for your continued support of our school, students and staff.

ESQUINA DIRECTORAL Esquina del Cachorro de la Escuela Elementaría de Esparto Gracias a nuestro gran PTA por apoyar la Noche de Cuentos y el Sock Hop. Los dos eventos fueron de gran diversión. El PTA ahora esta vendiendo calcetines bonitos con manitas pintadas. Pasen por la oficina para ver una muestra. Gracias a todos que apoyaron la venta de dulces See’s esta primavera. Con las ganancias, nosotros podremos comparar la corteza molida de seguridad que ira debajo de nuestra nueva estructura de juegos. Con la primavera en el aire, es importante recordar el código de vestuario y las expectativas de comportamiento. Por favor dense cuenta que el patio de recreo no esta abierto antes de clases hasta las 7:50 a.m. Los niños/as que lleguen antes de esta hora deben irse derecho a la cafetería, ya que no habrá supervisión afuera hasta las 7:50 a.m. Gracias por su apoyo continúo de nuestra escuela, estudiantes y personal.

Preschool Applications for the 2010-2011 School Year The Esparto State Preschool will be accepting applications for the 2010-2011 school year beginning May 3, 2010. To enroll your child, please visit us at the preschool office located in the Esparto Elementary School office. It is open from 1:00-3:00, Monday-Friday. The preschool is located at the school. You must be income-eligible to enroll in the program, therefore please bring your most recent 30 days of pay stubs for income verification. The program hours are from 9:00a.m. – 12p.m., Monday through Friday and follows the Esparto Unified School District calendar. Any questions, please call Maggie at 787-3417 Ext.500. ATTENDANCE REPORTING It is the parent’s responsibility to inform the school office immediately (within three days) for each day that a child is absent. You may call the school 787-3417 to leave a message 24-hours a day on the general voice mail system. An automated dialing system will call your home number in the evening reminding you to call the school if you have not done so. Three or more unexcused absences, or in combination with unexcused tardies over 30 minutes will generate a Truancy Letter.

Lost and Found Please come check the lost and found! Many coats, sweaters, gloves, lunch boxes, etc., have been turned in and are waiting to be claimed! Please label your child’s clothing so we may return it to the owner.

Q RALEY'S QUALITY OF LIFE Esparto Elementary School has registered with Raley's Quality of Life Program. This is a cost-free fundraising opportunity for our school. We have Quality of Life Program Cards to give to interested Raley's shoppers. Please come by the office to get a card. Raley's shoppers simply register their card on-line and present it at the check stand. It costs you nothing and Esparto Elementary School will receive a check quarterly based on a percentage of the purchases. Thank you! If you don't have your card yet, please come to the office and get one. It is so simple to use and the children will benefit.
Q CALIDAD DE VIDA DE RALEY'SLa Escuela Primaria de Esparto se ha registrado en el Programa de Calidad de Vida de la tienda de comida Raley’s Esta es una oportunidad de recaudar dinero para nuestra escuela libre de costo.Hemos tarjetas para este programa para darle a los que estén interesados que hacen sus compras en Raley’s. Esparto Elementary School is now collecting Campbell Soup Labels! Please send any labels with your child to the school office. Mrs. Julie Jackson, Librarian The Reading Patch Club is still going strong! Here are the patches that your child can earn from K-5th grade. Remember: Students must read 20 books for each patch. Only the General Reading #1 and #2, and the Read-to-Me #1  are free choice. All other patches are earned by reading 20 books from each category. Please write down the title of the book after your child has read it on the form. These forms are available at the library to be picked up any day. All forms must be signed by a parent before turning in to me at the Library. During the assembly at the end of the month, your child will receive the patches earned, a free book and prizes. If you have any further questions regarding this reading incentive program please do not hesitate to call me at 787-3417, ext. 540.

CAMPAÑA PARA RECAUDAR LIBROS
AG IN THE CLASSROOM This year several students participated in Yolo County’s Farm Bureau Education Corporation, Ag In The Classroom-2010 National Ag Week Coloring Contest. The following students will be honored at the Board of Directors Meeting on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 6:30p.m. at the Woodland Community and Senior Center for cake and punch and the program at 7:00p.m. They will receive a framed copy of their, their ribbon and a certificate for participating in the program. Congratulations!

AGRICULTURA EN EL SALON Este año varios estudiantes participaron en el Concurso de Colorear Semana Nacional de Agricultura en el Salón, Corporación de Educación Agrícola del Condado de Yolo. Los siguientes estudiantes serán honrados en la junta de la Mesa Directiva el martes, 11 de Mayo, 2010 en el Centro Comunitario de Woodland. Habrá pastel y refrescos a las 6:30p.m. y el programa comienza a las 7:00p.m. Ellos recibirán su dibujo en un marco, un moño y un certificado por participar en el programa. ¡Felicidades!

Esparto PTSA to Celebrate Auction Proceeds with Playground Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
The Esparto PTSA proudly invites community members and supporters to a ribbon cutting ceremony displaying their newly installed playground equipment. The event will take place at the Esparto Elementary School on April 13, 2010. The ceremony will start at 5:30 p.m. Following the ceremony tri-tip sandwiches and hot dogs will be available for purchase. The playground would not have been possible without the generous donations from area businesses and residents. In September of 2009 the Esparto PTSA held a silent and live auction at R.H. Phillips Winery. Two hundred and fifty attendees including parents, teachers, community members, and alumni enjoyed an eventful evening with wonderful items. The evening was a success and raised $13,500 in revenue for the PTSA. With there being only one playground for the children the PTSA felt there was a need for an additional structure. During the January meeting, members unanimously voted to solicit bids from various playground contractors. This event exemplifies how the Esparto Community along with parents, alumni, and students can work together to accomplish great things. Come join in the celebration of our community and children on April 13th.

El PTA de Esparto orgullosamente invita a los miembros de la comunidad y todos que han apoyado a la ceremonia de apertura de la estructura de juego recién instalada. Este evento tomara lugar en la Escuela Elementaría el 13 de Abril, 2010. La ceremonia comenzara a las 5:30 p.m. Después de la ceremonia habrá de venta sándwiches de tri-tip y hotdogs. La estructura de juegos no hubiera sido posible sin las donaciones generosas de negocios y residentes de nuestra área. En Septiembre del 2009 el PTA de Esparto tuvo una subasta silenciosa y en vivo en la Viñera de R.H. Phillips. Dos ciento cincuenta personas estuvieron en asistencia incluyendo padres, maestros, miembros de la comunidad y alumnados. Disfrutaron de una tarde llena de eventos y artículos maravillosos. La tarde fue muy exitosa y logro recaudar $13,500 para el PTA. Con el solo haber una estructura de juego, el PTA sintió que había una necesidad de una estructura adicional. Durante la junta de Enero, los miembros votaron unánimemente para solicitar presupuestos de varios contratistas para la estructura. Este evento ejemplifica como la Comunidad de Esparto junto con los padres, alumnados, y estudiantes pueden trabajar juntos para lograr gran cosas. Vengan a reunirse en la celebración de nuestra comunidad y niños el 13 de Abril.
