Flu information from the Nurse;

            October 4th was the start of the flu season. Both the novel H1N1 (swine) flu and the seasonal flu are in circulation. As of today’s date, the H1N1 is 99% of all cases.

            October 12th through October 16th Esparto Unified School district saw a peak of student absences due to illness or flu symptoms. This corresponds to a similar peak nation wide, which the CDC has reported on their website (http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/update.htm). Currently the student absence rate has return to a normal level.

            The good news about H1N1 is that it is not that virulent, meaning most people and children recover from it. The other good news about H1N1 is that the virus is not mutating (changing). This is good because once you’ve been sick with this virus you should not get sick from it again. However, you can still catch the seasonal flu.

             Esparto Unified School District wants to limit the spread of the flu and is following the CDC’s recommendations. Therefore any student who becomes ill needs to be fever free, (<100.0 degree F), for 24 hours before returning to school.
