Principal’s Corner

Dear Esparto Middle School Parents, Families and Community Members:

                  The first quarter ended October 17. We had a great start of the year and many exciting things are happening.  I have had the opportunity to meet many parents and community members. I look forward to meeting many more of you.

                  We have added a few more new faces on campus and would ask that you welcome them into the Esparto Middle School family and the community

• Rebecca Hurtt has replaced Susan Billing who retired. Ms. Hurtt will be teaching   8th grade English and Social Studies.
• We have added two new lunch time supervisors. Maribel Garcia and Lupe Rosa will be joining Shari West. 

                  The new Student Handbook was sent home with all students on October 20.  Please read and go over it with your child. The new Handbook includes many of Esparto Middle School’s procedures and policies. Please make sure to go over the new Behavior Policy. After you and your child have gone over the Handbook together, please read, sign and return the FAMILY-SCHOOL COMPACT.

                  Cross Country finished a great season. Seventh grader Jeremiah Wise, finished in 1st place in the 7th grade finals and was awarded top honors for being the top 7th grade runner in the league.  This is Jeremiah’s first season on the cross country team.

                  Eighth grade girl’s Volleyball finished their season with the League Tournament on October 18. Although the 8th grade girls did not place at the league tournament, they did have a winning season. The 6-7th grade team showed lots of improvement over the season.

                  EMS’s new art program, which serves approximately 150 6th-8th graders, is up and running, after starting from scratch with nothing more than pencils and paper. It is now stocked with art essentials, such as scissors, glue, paint, and paintbrushes, but is need of many additional supplies: magazines(National Geographic, Food, Travel, Outdoors, Home, Sports, etc), erasers, colored markers, black markers (thin, felt tip), heavy duty plastic bins, (shoebox size), plastic or styrofoam plates (8-10 diameter), papers towels (select-a-size are best),  art books , games, kits, posters would all be helpful.                   Just a reminder the campus is not open to students before 7:30 am. Please arrange your student’s drop-off time so they do not arrive earlier than 7:30 am.

                  We are looking for parents who would like to volunteer to be part of the Esparto Middle School Booster club, please call Mr. Verdugo at 787-4151 if you are interested.

Estimados padres, familias y miembros de la comunidad la escuela Intermedia:

     El primer trimestre termino el 1 de Octubre. El comienzo del a escolar fue exitoso y muchas mas cosas exitosas están pasando. He tenido la oportunidad de conocer a muchos padres y miembros de la comunidad. Espero conocer a muchos más de Uds. Hemos agregado unas nuevas caras a nuestra escuela y pedimos que le den la bienvenida a nuestra comunidad y familia de la Escuela Intermedia de Esparto.

• Rebecca Hurtt ha reemplazado a Susan Billings quien se ha jubilado. La Srita. Hurtt dará clases de Ingles y Ciencia Sociales del grado 8.
• Hemos agregado dos nuevas supervisoras para el tiempo del almuerzo Maribel García y Lupe Rosa acompañaran a Sheri West.

El libro de reglamentos para los estudiantes se envío a casa el día 20 de Octubre. Por favor léalo y repáselo con su hijo/a.

Este libro incluye algunas de las pólizas y procedimientos de la Escuela Intermedia de Esparto. Por favor asegure revisar la póliza de comportamiento junto con su hijo/a, lea firme y regrese a la escuela.

El equipo de carreras terminó una temporada exitosa. Jeremaih Wise del grado 7 termino en primer lugar en las finales

del grado 7 y lo premiaron con gran honor por ser uno de los mejores corredores en la liga del grado 7.  Este es el primer ano para Jeremiah Wise en el equipo.

                  Las muchachas de voleibol del octavo grado terminaron la temporada con el torneo de la liga el 18 de Octubre. Aunque las muchachas no tomaron ningún lugar en el torneo si terminaron la temporada como ganadoras. Los grados 6-7 demostraron mejorar durante la  temporada.

                Nuevo programa de Arte para la Escuela Intermedia de Esparto, cual da servicio aproximadamente a 150 estudiantes del grado 6-8 esta listo y corriendo después de haber empezado solamente con lápices y papel. Ahora tenemos suficientes Tijeras, pegamento, pinturas y brochas pero necesitamos mas materias, revistas como Geografía Nacional, revistas de comida, viajes y paisajes, hogar y deportes etc. borradores y marcadores de color (preferible negro) libros de arte, juegos, cajas de herramienta, carteles, todo esto seria una gran ayuda. También podemos recibir certificados del Office Depot. Por favor apoye a nuestro programa de arte!                 Solo un recordatorio: El campo no esta abierto antes de las 7:30 am. para los estudiantes. Por favor haga un arreglo para que sus alumnos no lleguen antes de las 7:30 am.

Q RALEY'S QUALITY OF LIFE

Esparto Middle School has registered with Raley's Quality of Life Program.  This is a cost-free fundraising opportunity for our school.

We have received  Quality of Life Program Cards to give to interested Raley's shoppers.  Please come by the office to get a card.  According to Raley's, shoppers simply register their card on-line and present it at the check stand.  It costs you nothing and Esparto Middle School will receive a check quarterly based on a percentage of the purchases.  Thank you!

Q CALIDAD DE VIDA DE RALEY'SLa Escuela Intermedia de Esparto se ha registrado en el Programa de Calidad de Vida de la tienda de comida Raley’s Esta es una oportunidad de recaudar dinero para nuestra escuela libre de costo.Hemos recibido tarjetas para este programa para darle a los que estén interesados que hacen sus compras en Raley’s.  Por favor venga a la oficina para obtener una tarjeta.  De acuerdo a Raley’s los participantes simplemente registran su tarjeta por medio de la internet y la presentan al cajero (a) cuando hacen sus compras.  A usted no le cuesta nada y la Escuela Intermedia de Esparto recibe un cheque  cada trimestre basado en un porcentaje de las compras hechas.  ¡Gracias!

                  The art program is up and running.  Students are learning about texture, pattern, and value.  Stop by the office and see their “Bad Hair Day” designs.  Right now we’re working on oil pastel pumpkins, using shading and shadow.  The art program still needs many supplies.  A wish list will be going home with your child next week.  Please donate

                  Este programa de arte esta listo y en corrida.  Los estudiantes están aprendiendo acerca de textura, patrón y valor. Pase por la oficina ya mire los dibujos de dias malos del cabello”. Ahorita estamos trabajando con calabaza con aceites de pastel, usando sombra y tintes. El programa de Arte continúa necesitando materias. Vamos a enviar una lista de deseo para la semana entrante. Por favor haga su donación.

First day of practice – Monday, Dec. 1st  

Girls play 4 pm game from Tuesday, Jan. 6 through Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Boys play 4 pm game from Thursday, Jan. 22 through Thursday, Feb. 5.

Tournament will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Friends of the Esparto Regional Library have Community Service opportunities available for students.

                  The Harvest Day Dinner is November 2, 2008. 

                  The Kids Shopping day will be December 14, 2008.

                  The Almond Festival will be the last weekend in February, 2009.

SERVICIO COMUNITARIA

Los  amigos de la Librería regional de Esparto tienen oportunidades de servicios comunitarios para los estudiantes.

                  La cena de Dias de Cosecha es el 2 de Noviembre, 2008.

                  El DIA de Compras para los  estudiantes es el 2 de Noviembre, 2008.

                  El Festival de la Almendra será el último fin de semana de Febrero, 2009.

No deje pasar esta gran oportunidad! Por favor apúntese para ayudar en la librería de Esparto.

Las formas para Servicios comunitarios están disponibles en la oficina de la escuela Intermedia. 

Short Term Independent Study

              Esparto Middle School will be offering short term independent study contracts from 5 to 10 school days for students who will be traveling. If a student will be out of school longer than two weeks we will disenroll that student and then reenroll him/her when the student returns to school. Students absent from school without an independent study contract will be given an unexcused absence. If you choose not to participate in this program, your child will be disenrolled from school after a week of absence.

              In order to participate in this program, the following steps need to be taken:

• Parents need to contact the school office at least a week prior to departure and state the dates that their child (children) will be out of school. This enables staff to prepare the assignments and develop the independent study contract. Please do not contact the teachers directly for work.
• The parent, student, administrator and teacher must sign the independent study contract.
• The work for your child can be picked up at the school office.
• The packet of assignments is due to the school office NO LATER THAN THE DAY YOU HAVE STATED YOUR CHILD WILL RETURN TO SCHOOL. No exceptions will be made. If this work is not returned completed on time, no credit at all will be given to the student for the time missed and the student will be reported as truant from school.
• Appropriate credit will be given for the completed work done by the student.

Parents need to be aware that:

• They are responsible for the supervision of the work of their child while completing the assignment.
• Parents are responsible for making sure that assignments are returned on the day stated in the contract.
• This independent study does not take the place of classroom instruction. Students are responsible for the concepts taught while they are absent from class in order to be promoted to the next grade. Failure to master the grade level standards can result in retention.

Estudio Independiente a Corto Plazo

             La escuela intermedia de Esparto estará ofreciendo contratos de estudio independiente a corto plazo hasta para un máximo de 5 a 10 días de escuela para los estudiantes que estarán viajando.  Si un estudiante tiene que estar fuera de la escuela por más de dos semanas nosotros anularemos su inscripción y será re-inscrito cuando regrese a la escuela.  Los estudiantes que se ausenten de la escuela y que no tengan un contrato de estudio independiente serán considerados que faltaron a clases sin excusas.  Si ustedes escogen no participar en este programa la inscripción de su hijo(a) será terminada después de una semana de inasistencias.

             Para poder participar en este programa se tienen que tomar los siguientes pasos:

• Los padres tienen que comunicarse con la oficina por lo menos una semana antes de salir de viaje y especificar las fechas durante las cuales el niño(a) ó niños(as) estarán fuera de la escuela.
• Esto permitirá que el personal de la escuela prepare las asignaciones y desarrolle el contrato de estudio independiente.  Por favor no se comuniquen directamente con el maestro(a) para obtener las asignaciones ó trabajo.

   

• El padre  ó madre, el estudiante, el administrador y el maestro(a) tienen que firmar el contrato.
• El trabajo estipulado para su hijo(a) puede ser  recogido en la oficina de la escuela.
• Este paquete de trabajo (asignaciones) tendrá que ser devuelto a la oficina de la escuela A MAS TARDAR EL MISMO DIA QUE USTED ESPECIFICO QUE SU HIJO(A) REGRESARIA A LA ESCUELA.  No se harán excepciones.  Además si el trabajo no es devuelto completo puntualmente y no está totalmente terminado no se le dará ningún crédito al estudiante por el tiempo que estuvo ausente.  El estudiante será reportado como inasistente sin excusa de la escuela.
• Se otorgará el crédito apropiado por el trabajo completo que el estudiante haya hecho.

Los padres necesitan estar conscientes de que:

• Ellos son los responsables de supervisar el trabajo de su hijo(a) mientras sé esta completando.
• Los padres so los responsables de asegurarse que el estudio independiente sea devuelto en la fecha precisa especificada en el contrato.
• Este estudio independiente no sustituye la instrucción que se da en el salón de clase.  Por lo tanto el estudiante es responsable por los conceptos que se estén enseñando en la clase durante su ausencia para poder ser promovido al próximo año escolar.  Si los estándares de nivel de grado no son dominados esto puede resultar en que el estudiante sea reprobado.
• Para que se pueda recibir el crédito de las asignaciones completadas estas tendrán que ser devueltas a la escuela a tiempo.
• Este estudio independiente no sustituye la instrucción que se da en el salón de clase.  Por lo tanto el estudiante es responsable por los conceptos que se estén enseñando en la clase durante su ausencia para poder ser promovido al próximo año escolar.  Si los estándares de nivel de grado no son dominados esto puede resultar en que el estudiante sea reprobado
