PRINCIPAL’S CORNER
Dear Esparto Middle School Parents, Families and Community Members:
The 3rd Quarter has ended and we are in the final stretch of the year. EMS students will be taking their California State Test April 1st through the 6th. Please make every effort to have your child at school and on time on testing days. I have challenged the students to keep our attendance above 96% for our test days. If they meet my challenge the whole school will receive a Day on The Green and a barbeque lunch.
During the last quarter, we had some exciting things happened at school. Ms. Hurtt and the ASB class have put on two great rallies. The ASB class designed an EMS shirt and has offered them for sale to students and staff. Go Wildcats!
Slow Foods Yolo held an event at R.H. Phillips Winery and tours of local farms and ranches included TA Hatanaka Farms, Schaupp Farms, and Capay Canyon Ranch. Students, parents, and coaches from Esparto Middle School served as docents at each farm to give an overview of the ranch operations. After the tours, participants dined on food locally grown throughout the Capay Valley. Esparto Middle School slow roasted a whole hog provided by James Durst and Simas Family Farms. A donation was made to EMS Student body for their effort.
EMS’ new Booster Club held its first fundraiser during the Almond Festival. We served hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken sandwiches, and cotton candy. This event was very successful thanks to all the hard work from parents and staff. Thank you for all your dedication and commitment.
Our Soccer season is just about to wrap up. The girl’s team has shown a lot of improvement and we look forward to seeing them continue to improve. The boy’s soccer team is enjoying a winning season and, as this article is being written, are preparing for a strong finish in the league tournament. Girl’s Softball has started their practice and is preparing for their first game.
Just a reminder, students are allowed to have cell phones, but please remind your student that cell phones are not to be used during school hours.

ESQUINA DEL DIRECTOR
Estimados Padres, Familia y Miembros de la Comunidad:
El tercer trimestre se ha terminado y estamos en los finales del ano. Los estudiantes de EMS tomaran un examen del Estado de California del primero al seis de abril. Por favor hago todo el esfuerzo posible para que sus hijos asistan y lleguen a tiempo en estos días de exámenes. Yo he retado a los estudiantes que si mantenemos las asistencia el 96% en los días de exámenes. Si logramos esta meta tendremos un día de juegos (Day on the Green) y comida.
Durante el último semestre pasaron algunas cosas buenas: Ms. Hurtt la maestra de ASB formo dos reuniones de diversión. La clase de ASB diseño una camiseta que estará de venta para los estudiantes y personal de la escuela. “Arriba Wild Cats”.
Comida Despacio de Yolo patrocino un evento y una excursión de granjas cercanas y ranchos incluyendo la granja T.A. Hatanaka, la granja Schaupp, y rancho Capay Canon. Estudiantes, padres y entrenadores de la escuela Intermedia sirvieron de guías, en cada granja para dar su opinión sobretodo de cómo es el trabajo en un rancho. Después de la excursión, los participantes comieron comida que fue cosechada en el Valle de Capay. La escuela intermedia cosió un puerco el cual fue donado por James Durst y la familia Simas. El cuerpo estudiantil recibió una donación por su esfuerzo.
El club nuevo de organización de padres/alumnos organizo su primer recaudación durante el festival de almendra. Se sirvieron hamburguesas, hot dogs, sándwiches de pollo y dulces de algodón. Este evento tuvo un gran éxito, gracias a todos los padres y personal por toda cooperación y ayuda. La temporada de soccer esta llegando a su final. El equipo de muchachas a demostrado mucho mejoramiento y esperamos que esto continué. El equipo de soccer de muchachos han estado gozando una temporada de triunfo, al estar escribiendo este noticiero, se están preparando para un gran final en este torneo. Han comenzado las prácticas de béisbol de muchachas y se están preparando para su primer juego.
Un recordatorio, los estudiantes tienen permiso de traer celulares, pero por favor de recordarles que esta prohibido usarlos durante las horas escolares.

STAR TESTING
Each year in the early spring the State of California requires that all 2nd through 11th graders take part in testing to measure academic progress. These tests are important measures of our school’s progress. It is important that we all make an effort to help our students do their very best. We have established our testing dates for this year and hope that everyone will work to be sure that students are present, rested and positive when testing time arrives. Mark your calendars for the week of April 1st for this year’s testing period

Cada año al principio de la primavera el estado de California requiere que todo grado de segundo hasta onceavo tomen parte de este examen para medir el progreso académico. Estos exámenes son medidas importantes para el progreso de nuestra escuela. Es importante que todos hagamos un esfuerzo ayudar a los estudiantes hacer lo mejor. Q RALEY'S QUALITY OF LIFE
Esparto Middle School has registered with Raley's Quality of Life Program. This is a cost-free fundraising opportunity for our school.
We have received Quality of Life Program Cards to give to interested Raley's shoppers. Please come by the office to get a card. According to Raley's, shoppers simply register their card on-line and present it at the check stand. It costs you nothing and Esparto Middle School will receive a check quarterly based on a percentage of the purchases. Thank you!
Q CALIDAD DE VIDA DE RALEY'SLa Escuela Intermedia de Esparto se ha registrado en el Programa de Calidad de Vida de la tienda de comida Raley’s Esta es una oportunidad de recaudar dinero para nuestra escuela libre de costo.Hemos recibido tarjetas para este programa para darle a los que estén interesados que hacen sus compras en Raley’s. Por favor venga a la oficina para obtener una tarjeta. De acuerdo a Raley’s los participantes simplemente registran su tarjeta por medio de la internet y la presentan al cajero (a) cuando hacen sus compras. BLUE & GRAY BALL- Friday, May 15, 2009
Esparto Middle School is proud to announce the 13th Annual Blue and Gray Ball being held on Friday, May 15, 2009 at the high school gym from 6:30 to 8:30pm. This is a tradition that our 8th graders have been able to enjoy for the last 13 years. Our 8th graders will be dressing in Civil War Era attire and performing period dances as a culminating event for the PE and Social Studies classes. Information will be sent home with all eighth graders shortly. La Escuela Intermedia de Esparto esta orgullosa de anunciar el 13 ano anual Baile de Azul y Gris. Que tomara lugar el viernes 15 de mayo 2009 en el gimnasio de la Escuela Preparatoria de las 6:30-8:30 p.m. Esta es una tradición que nuestros estudiantes de grado 8 han estado disfrutando en los últimos 13 anos. Los estudiantes de grado 8 se vestirán como en el era de la Guerra Civil y se llevara acabo bailes y eventos culminantes para la clase de P.E. y Ciencias Sociales. Esta información se enviara a casa con los estudiantes de grado 8.
