Superintendent's Message

Dear Esparto Community,

I am sincerely pleased to welcome students and staff to the 2018-2019 school year. It is my honor to start my third year of service as the Superintendent of the Esparto Unified School District. Our local community is highly invested in supporting our schools and the many services we provide. I remain committed to working collaboratively with our stakeholders to offer vibrant programs to our children. While there are hundreds of factors that affect student learning, I am confident that your child will benefit greatly from our district's most important resource; our wonderful staff. I take great pride in working with talented secretaries, custodians, teachers, administrators, counselors, and coaches who serve our students. The 2018-2019 school year is shaping up to be a great year because we are returning so many talented, experienced staff members.

We will be inviting students, siblings, parents, and families to attend our Back To School Night events; where we plan to introduce the community to our district, site, and classroom goals. Please join us in celebrating education in our community at these important events. As the year progresses, I will be updating members of our community with messages about important district initiatives. These initiatives include:

1. The deployment of district-wide wifi in all classrooms and more than 600 student computer devices.

2. The implementation of district-wide academic readiness for the CAASPP exams.

3. The creation of the EUSD Nutrition & Physical Activity Committee (NPAC).

4. The implementation of collaborative instructional planning sessions for teachers from EES/EMS and EMS/EHS.

5. The implementation of district-wide efforts to increase student attendance.

6. The implementation of district-wide efforts to create safe campuses for all students.

There is much work to do! I encourage you to contact me at dochoa@espartok12.org with any questions regarding our district.

Sincerely,

Diego Ochoa

About Superintendent Ochoa

Superintendent Diego Ochoa began his tenure with the Esparto Unified School District in 2012. He spent his first year serving as the vice-principal of Esparto High School and also served as the district's Director of Special Education, coached multiple athletic teams, taught special education, taught reading classes, and even taught a culinary class!

Superintendent Ochoa is a resident of the Capay Valley and enjoys being involved in local community services organizations. He and his wife, Hallie, are raising four children. He is a member of the Esparto Lions and Board Member of Capay Valley Vision. Mr. Ochoa is a strong supporter of youth athletics in the area.

As a child, Mr. Ochoa spoke English as a second language and moved frequently in his childhood. He attended nine elementary and middle schools and became accustomed to the challenges associated with starting school in a new and unfamiliar place. He quickly learned that teachers and school staff members could help him achieve success regardless of any barrier. He also decided, quite early on, that he wanted to become an educator and make a difference in the lives of students. He remains a strong advocate for public education!

Mr. Ochoa began his career in education as a special education teacher in the San Diego Unified School District in 2000. Mr. Ochoa previously served as a special education program coordinator, a high school principal and a high school vice-principal. These administrative experiences allowed Mr. Ochoa to develop important leadership skills.
